Secura Insurance – Work Comp
Speakers: Trisha Gavin and Jeff Vander Velden
Bio for speakers:
Trisha Gavin joined SECURA in August of 2013 as a claim rep and has been a claims supervisor since May of 2015. Prior to SECURA, Trisha was employed with Blankenheim Services, and before that with Prevention First Safety and Medical Management. Her role with those companies was to provide onsite medical management, injury prevention, and workers compensation case facilitation which included working directly with insureds, TPAs, and carriers on claim analysis, coordination of onsite care, IMEs, and causation studies. Trisha received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology - Athletic Training from UW-Eau Claire, as well as a Master of Education in Professional Development. Trisha has held a license as an Athletic Trainer in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa. Trisha has also held certifications from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) for Athletic Training as well as Certified Specialist in Health Ergonomics.
Our second keynote speaker, Jeff Vander Velden has been working at SECURA Insurance for over 7 years and has a broad knowledge in the insurance and safety industry. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a degree in finance, Jeff started working at SECURA as a claim rep in the workers compensation department. In September 2013, Jeff transitioned into a commercial lines underwriter and then fulfilled his desire to become a risk management consultant in April of 2015.
Jeff has also attained his safety engineering degree from Fox Valley Tech College and currently holds the AINS, AU, and ARM designations. Winneconne, WI is where Jeff grew up but currently resides in the town of Menasha, WI. Jeff currently handles the Northeast WI and Upper Peninsula of MI territory.”

We will provide insight from a carrier’s perspective on what an employer contact (safety or HR professional) can do to help the claim process. We will answer frequently asked questions and address common concerns, while sharing interesting claim stories and tips to navigate through a claim.
Blankenheim Services – The Agile Worker™
Speaker(s): Andy Christenson
Bio: Andy D. Christenson, MOTR a native of the fox Valley is a current resident of Appleton WI. Since 2008, Andy has practiced within the industrial setting through Blankenheim Services as an onsite clinician working closely with safety, management and human resources to improve industrial workers in preventing injuries and returning to work in a productive manner. Since 2014 he has served as a FVSC board member. Andy received his Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Science and a Masters in Occupational Therapy at Concordia University in Wisconsin.
Topic summary: The Agile Worker™ Redefining the “Industrial Athlete”
Andy will discuss the Industrial Athlete a concept from late 1980s and early 1990’s and how the concept has evolved within the workforce. The Agile Worker will be introduced along with musculoskeletal, mental, technological, aging, and generational influences. How to empower and encourage the workforce through an agile foundation to determine the ground work for continuous improvement.
